Obituary of Delmer Erickson
Delmer Clifton Erickson, 89, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East.
He was born on October 30, 1922 in Athens Township, Isanti County, Minnesota to Charles and Christine (Palmquist) Erickson. He grew up in the Athens area where he attended country school and graduated from Cambridge High School. After high school he farmed for ten years.
In 1944 he was united in marriage to Eleanor Lowell and they raised their four children in the Cambridge area. Delmer also worked for Ford Motor Company in St. Paul, the arsenal in New Brighton, Minneapolis Moline in Minneapolis, and Gopher Engineering in Minneapolis. In 1956 he began working for the Cambridge Post Office, at first working there part time along with Gopher Engineering. Three years later he was full time with the Post Office. Delmer also drove school bus, worked maintenance at the Bridge Park Apartments while still working at the Post Office. Eleanor passed away in January 1985, and he retired from the Post Office soon there after.
In retirement, Delmer enjoyed woodworking, crafting clocks, plaques and furniture in his shop. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and bowling.
On December 26, 1991 he married Millie Brethorst at the Cambridge Lutheran Church. They have since made their home at Pine Village.
Delmer is survived by his wife Millie, children Dale and wife Sylvia Erickson of Wadena, Diane and husband Frank Presseller of Tulsa, OK, Darwin and wife Vickie Erickson of St. Joseph, Duane and Gayle Erickson of Lino Lakes, step children Karl Brethorst of Cambridge, Barbara and husband Terry Baar of Cambridge, Bev and husband Tim Hanna of Cambridge, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, seven step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends.
