Obituary of Arlene Sumption

Arlene Marjorie Sumption, 83, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Elim Home in Princeton. She was born at Woodstock, Minnesota on July 9, 1925 to Melvin and Evalyn (Johnson) Stephenson. Arlene was raised in Woodstock where she attended grade school and Pipestone High School. At age 17 the family moved to Spokane, Washington in the fall of 1942. She worked with her father at Boeing for a short time, repairing airplanes. After the war in 1946 the family moved back to Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Emery Sumption on September 26, 1947 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They lived in Ruthton, MN, Montgomery, MN, Hardwick, St. Paul, and Moundsview. On February 28, 1962 they purchased a farm Northwest of Cambridge and have lived there since then. Arlene especially loved the farm and was very happy living there. In November 2004 Arlene moved to the Elim Home in Princeton and has lived there since. Arlene worked at various places including the Super Valu in Cambridge, Peoples Café, and was a cook at the Cambridge Schools, retiring from there after about 16 years. She was a member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church. She enjoyed living on the farm, gardening, her flowers and horses, crocheting, canning, playing cribbage and doing crossword puzzles. She and Emery also enjoyed camping throughout Minnesota and at the Minnesota State Fair every year. They also took several trips to Las Vegas, and trips to visit their son Stephen out of state. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Delbert and Dennis Stephenson. Arlene is survived by her husband Emery of Cambridge, son Stephen and wife Carol Sumption of Parker, Colorado, Dianne Hubbell of Cambridge, three grandchildren Ashley and Adalynn Hubbell, and Lorin Sumption, sister Carol and husband John Overgaauw of Mercedes, Texas, brothers Ron and wife Lila Stephenson of Big Lake, Jim Stephenson of Hackensack, special friends Jan Reick (Al VanRanacker) of Cambridge, Loraine Vogelpohl of Cambridge, Leone Anderson and husband Bob Wasick of Stanchfield, Mike and Kathy Szczech, Hilda Christenson, Hilda Turnquist an Audrey Chalstrom all of Cambridge, as well as several other relatives and friends.
