Obituary of Alvina VanAntwerp
Alvina M. VanAntwerp, 88, of Cambridge, MN passed away on February 7, 2009 at GracePointe Crossing West.
Alvina was born August 12, 1920 to Henry and Susannah Berg in Marion, S.D., where she also grew up. She was a graduate of Marion H.S., and later went on to Moody Bible Institute where she studied Bible and Music. She received Jesus Christ as her personal savior at a young age, and then dedicated her life to telling others about Him through her life and music.
Alvina loved to sing and play be ear many musical instruments throughout her life, including the marimba, saxophone, piano, accordion and sleigh bells. She first began using her musical talents for the Lord by singing and playing at youth for Christ meetings. She also traveled and provided special music for various evangelistic speakers and churches.
When Alvina married Bill on December 27, 1950, they began their ministry together where they pastured churches in Pelican Rapids, MN, Lake Norden, S.D., Emerson, IA, Princeton, MN, Waconia, MN., Richmond, CA., and after retirement, 9 interim churches.
Even in her last years, Alvina loved to still be able to give musical concerts to various groups and churches. She gave and received much love from all who knew her. With her servant heart she was always thinking of and doing things for others.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends, and leaves to her family a wonderful spiritual legacy and model of Christ's love.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy and husband Bob Helvey of Little Rock, AR, son Steve and wife Mary VanAntwerp of Hudson, WI, six grandchildren, Jessica Helvey of Minneapolis, Robby and Stephanie Helvey of Little Rock, AR, David and wife Lindsey VanAntwerp, Aimee VanAntwerp all of Salt Lake City, UT, Victoria VanAntwerp of Hudson, WI, great granddaughter Avery VanAntwerp, brother Walt and wife Loretta Berg of Oklahoma City, OK, as well as other relatives and friends.
