Obituary of Joseph Komes
Joseph Henry Komes, 83, of Braham passed away on Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Cambridge Medical Center.
He was born on April 2, 1925 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin to Adam and Vicky (Matton) Komes. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith at home. He grew up in the Rice Lake area where he attended school and at the age of 14 began working at various farms in the area. In September 1945 he entered the U. S. Army and was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington during World War II. He was honorably discharged in November 1946.
On March 18, 1949 he was united in marriage to Virginia Posta in Pine City, Minnesota. They lived in Wisconsin for a short time before moving to Minneapolis. They also lived in Fridley, Coon Rapids, and Cambridge. Virginia passed away in March 1977. Joe moved north of Braham in 1986 and has lived there since.
Joe worked construction for R.W. Soderstrom Inc. for over 23 years, retiring from there in 1975. After his retirement Joe enjoyed selling items at various flea markets along with his daughter Jackie. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking and going to garage sales. He was a very kind and generous person who will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Andrew, daughter Joanne in childhood, wife Virginia, daughter Jacqueline Komes, brother Leonard Komes, sister Dale Stodala.
Joseph is survived by his sons Timothy and wife Jackie Komes of Glenpool, OK, Christopher Komes of Braham, Marc and wife Connie Komes of Foreston, Jeffrey and wife Cheryl of Brooklyn Center, five grandchildren Tanya, Joshua, Tina, Mark and Steven, two great grandchildren Devin and Dylan, brother Robert and wife Margaret Komes of Alexandria, as well as nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
