Obituary of Gordon Mattson
Gordon Ellsworth Mattson of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West, one day before his 89th birthday.
He was born August 31, 1920 in Bradford Township, Minnesota to Lorris B. and Anna Kristina Victoria (Lyster) Mattson. Gordon attended country school and went on to graduate from high school in 1938. He entered the U.S. Navy, served during WWII and was first stationed in the South Atlantic and later Greenland and was honorably discharged. Gordon attended Minnesota School of Business and earned a degree in accounting.
He was united in marriage to Dolores (Bergloff) Noren and they made their home in Cambridge. Gordon worked at the Twin City Arsenal, installed telephone lines for the Springvale Telephone Company, and also worked at the Cambridge State Hospital as a chief engineer for 25 years, retiring from there in the mid 1980's.
Gordon attended the Springvale Baptist Church. He enjoyed cutting wood, fishing, playing cards, dancing and loved dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Clifford, brothers Clifford, Gustaf, Arnold, sisters Verna and Bessie.
Gordon is survived by wife Dolores of Cambridge, son Mike and wife Cheryl Noren of Sandstone, three grandchildren Robbin Noren-Mullins and husband Dan of Cambridge, David Noren of Cambridge, Kenny Noren and wife Lisa Yerigan of Cambridge, two great grandchildren Colin Shrider, Michael Noren and one on the way, former daughter-in-law Sharon Noren of Cambridge, nephews David and Wesley Mattson, as well as other relatives and friends.
