Obituary of Byron Dewey
Byron Louis Dewey, 72, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at his home.
He was born February 21, 1937 in King City, Missouri to Byron E. and Alice (Bonham) Dewey. Byron grew up in King City where he attended country schools and graduated from King City High School in 1955. After high school he worked at the Stanberry Cap factory in Stanberry, MO for a short period, during that time he met his future wife Patty Lou Pickerel. In 1956 Byron enlisted in the U.S. Army, while serving Byron and Patty were married on April 15, 1956 at Stanberry Baptist Church. Patty remained in Stanberry while Byron was stationed in Tokyo, Japan, he was honorably discharged on January 31, 1962. They made their first home in Stanberry where he worked as a meat cutter and their first two sons David and Myron were born.
Later in 1962 the family moved to Stillwater, MN and then on to Red Wing, MN during which time their third son Mark was born. In January 1967 they moved to Cambridge, MN and their fourth son Eric was born. They first lived in town and then later moved to Paul's Lake where they lived for many years. He was employed at various grocery stores in the area before working as a produce salesman for Spizmans Fruit Co. of St. Paul. He then worked for the Cambridge Regional Center before starting his own cleaning business for many local area businesses. He then worked at Cambridge Super America until retiring in April. 2008.
Byron was a former deacon at North Isanti Baptist Church, then attended and help establish various churches before becoming a member of Victory Christian Center. He enjoyed volunteering with Pilot Outreach Jail Ministry in Isanti County. He had an intense focus on Jesus and ministered to everyone. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting stamps and working on jigsaw and word puzzles.
He was preceded in death by, two stillborn children Matthew Arnold in 1957, Vanessa Rae in 1963, his parents, and sister Carolee Stewart.
Byron is survived by his wife Patty of Cambridge, sons David and wife Maureen Dewey of Cambridge, Myron Dewey of Pahrump, NV, Mark and wife Jennifer Dewey of Isanti, Eric and wife Susanna Dewey of Braham, 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, soon to be five, sister Betty Jean and husband Jim Stoner of Rockport, MO, brother-in-law Clarence Stewart of Bennettsville, SC, as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
