Obituary of Harris Palmer

Harris Lane Palmer, 82, of Coon Rapids, formerly of Blaine and McGregor passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Unity Hospital in Fridley. He was born May 19, 1927 in Shell Lake, Wisconsin to Harley and Julia (Anderson) Palmer. Harris grew up in Spooner, WI where he attended grade school and graduated from Spooner High School in 1945. He went on to enlist in the U.S. Army was stationed in Germany during World War II and was honorably discharged. On January 27, 1953 he was united in marriage to Gail DesSaint in Pine City, MN. They made their home in Spooner, where Harris sold cars for the local GM dealer as well as driving bus for the post office. They would later move to Blaine, MN and Harris continued to drive bus for the post office and was the used car manager at Art Goebel Ford in Coon Rapids for 21 years, retiring in 1991. After retiring they made their home in McGregor for over ten years, and spent winters in Myrtle Beach, SC. They also lived in Ham Lake and Blaine and have spent the past two years at the Homestead in Coon Rapids. Harris was a member of the McGregor Lions Club, Grace Lutheran Church in McGregor and Peace Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids. In his younger years he took flying lessons and later in life took a great interest in aviation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, loved Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers. Family was an important part of his life. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Steven, brothers Warren and Everett. Harris is survived by his wife Gail of Coon Rapids, daughter Cheryl and husband Gary Daml of Coon Rapids, son Chris and wife Lisa Palmer of Ham Lake, five grandchildren Jeremy Daml of St. Paul, Amy Daml of Minneapolis, Brittany, Casey and Teegan Palmer of Ham Lake, sister-in-law Tommie Palmer of Spooner, WI, as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
