Obituary of Edwin Dobe
Edwin M. Dobe, 85, of Dalbo passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East.
He was born November 7, 1923 to Henry and Alice (Brissman) Dobe. He grew up in Brookfield, Illinois where he attended LaGrange School. After graduating from high school Edwin worked for a few years as a machinist. In 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.
On August 20, 1945 he was united in marriage to Helen Schlechter in California while serving in the Navy. After his discharge they moved to Dalbo where they purchased a farm. It was there that they farmed and raised their two children. After over 38 years of farming the couple retired and remained living on the farm. During their retirement years they spent many winters in Arizona and Florida. More recently Helen and Ed would move to the Cambridge Health Care Center. She passed away in March 2008.
Ed enjoyed his model railroads and remote control airplanes. He liked to play pool and chess and discuss politics. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Dalbo, the National Farmer's Organization, the Isanti VFW and a former member on the Isanti County Planning Commission.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, brother Rupert and sister Shirley Meister. Ed is survived by his son Mike and wife Julie Dobe of Orlando, FL, daughter Cindy Anderson of Dalbo, grandson Jeffrey Thiel, granddaughter Jessica Thiel, great grandchildren Makenzie and Mason Farmer, sister Sharon Erickson, as well as other relatives and friends.
