Obituary of Dorothy Syverson
Dorothy Bernice Syverson, 96, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West.
She was born on September 14, 1913 in Orrock, Minnesota the second of eight children born to Alfred and Della (Kundson) Mathison. She was baptized and confirmed at Eidskog Lutheran Church near Orrock.
On April 22, 1936 Dorothy was united in marriage to Herman Syverson and to this union two children were born Malcolm and Clellan.
Dorothy always worked hard. In the 1940's she helped Herman run the Cozy Theater in Cambridge, selling tickets, snacks, popcorn. She even ran the projector which was no easy job. Later she worked at the Arlington Hotel as head cook and then 32 years at the Cambridge Launderers and Cleaners. After retiring, Dorothy worked at the Cambridge Library until age 85, along with volunteering at the Shalom Thrift Center. She also attended and was active at Joy Lutheran Church in Cambridge.
Dorothy took great care of her family, helped with the grandchildren, neighbors, friends, relatives and all her animals.
She is survived by her sons Malcolm and wife Bonnie Syverson of Wyoming, MN, Clellan Syverson of Cambridge, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one very soon to be great great grandchild. Brothers Alvin and wife Eileen Mathison of Princeton, Reuben and wife Ann Mathison of Monticello, sister Ruth and husband Wilbur Henjum of Columbia Heights, sisters-in-law Muriel Mathison of Long Siding, Alice Roland of Zimmerman, as well as other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herman, brothers Kenneth, Bennie and Loren Mathison, and sister Bessie Munich.
