Obituary of Wilma Mickelson

Wilma D. Mickelson, 85, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West. She was born May 20, 1925 in Milaca, Minnesota to Walter and Johanna (Otten) Wilkins. Wilma grew up in the Milaca and Foreston area. She attended grade school at Foreston District #11 country school and graduated from Milaca High School in 1942. She went on to attend St. Paul Bible College and earned a certificate in Christian Education. On September 6, 1945 she was united in marriage to Edward Mickelson at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Milaca. They lived in Pease for a short time and then farmed at two different farms in Milaca. In 1952 the family moved to a farm northeast of Cambridge and they continued farming. In 1966 Wilma began working at the Cambridge State Hospital and worked many years as a human services technician, retiring at age 65. In November 2006 Ed and Wilma purchased a home and moved into Cambridge. Wilma was an active member of Spring Vale Baptist Church from 1952 until the late 1990's where she was involved with the Mission Circle, Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, a deaconess, and many other church activities. She was a current member of First Baptist Church where she was active in the coffee ministry, prayer ministry team and several social groups. Wilma devoted her life to her family and church. People were her life and she enjoyed socializing and volunteering in her church as well as community activities. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers, collecting angels, bird and people watching, baking Christmas cookies, garage sales, playing games and playing scrabble at the Senior Center. Wilma and Ed enjoyed traveling and took several trips over the years throughout the United States. Wilma was a prayer warrior and her grandchildren often thought of her as the "Hotline to Heaven". Grandchildren called her Grandma, Great Grandma, or Grandma "Wilman", but Scott always called her "Bingcom". She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Roger Edward, husband Ed on June 17, 2008, brothers George and Bill Wilkins, and sister Kathryn Ray.
