Obituary of Robert Misewich
Robert (Bob) A. Misewich of Cambridge, MN, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, MN, at the age of 74.
He was born December 31, 1935, to Adolph and Sofia Misevic'ius (Misewich) in Newburgh, NY. At the age of 2½, he and his family traveled to his parents' home country of Lithuania for an extended visit. His father returned to the U.S. first, but then Bob and his mother were unable to leave Lithuania when WW II broke out. Although Sofia was never able to leave the county again, she worked tirelessly to reunite Bob with his father in the U.S. At the age of 11, Bob finally rejoined his father after a six-month solo journey that included a stay at a German refugee camp.
He grew up in Mahopac, NY, graduated from Westchester Community College in White Plains, NY, and then received a track scholarship at the University of Tennessee where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. After serving in the U.S. Army, Bob began his career with IRM as a fire prevention engineer. He worked for IRM until his retirement in 1996.
In 1967, Bob married Christine Olson. They lived in Minnetonka, MN, where their three daughters were born. They became active in the youth sponsor group at Westwood Lutheran Church. In 1976, they moved to Cambridge where Bob treasured spending time with his friends curling, golfing, boating, and having morning coffee at the People's Café. His family was the core of his life, and Bob took great pleasure involving himself in his daughters' school/sports activities and traveling with Chris and the family. In his retirement, Bob loved spending winters in Stuart, FL, and cherished time together with his grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Sofia Misevic'ius (Misewich). He is survived by his wife, Christine; daughters, Krisanne (Scott) Wessel of Cambridge, Nicole (Trent) Brown of White Bear Lake, MN, and Jill (Jon) Miller of Lakeville, MN; and nine grandchildren: Jake, Annastina, and William Wessel; Sophia, Kaisa, and Linnea Brown; and Matthew, Samuel, and Payton Miller.
