Obituary of Gerald Macki
Gerald Toby Macki of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Grace Point Crossing Gables East at the age of 77.
Gerald was born and raised in Hibbing, Minnesota and was the only son of Toby and Josephine (Cowling) Macki. Gerald grew up with six sisters and attended Hibbing High School. Following high school, Gerald enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country from 1950-1954. He was a Korean War veteran. After completing his military service, Gerald became a bricklayer and began working in the construction trade.
In 1956 Gerald married Joanne Elizabeth Polcher and together they raised five children (two girls and three boys). In 1962, Gerald relocated his family to Cambridge, Minnesota where they have resided until the present time. Gerald spent a number of years serving as a volunteer youth hockey coach in Cambridge while working construction in and around the Twin Cities area. Gerald retired in 1992 after 38 years of service as a commercial bricklayer. Gerald loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved stock car racing and hockey. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Gerald was best known as a dedicated husband, a patient and loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. His dry sense of humor, silly songs, and playful manner were responsible for countless smiles during his lifetime.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 54 years Joanne of Cambridge; his daughters Margaret (Tony) Puhek of Chisholm, Catherine (Jeffrey) McCann of Cambridge; his sons Michael (Kristy) Macki of Cambridge, Iowa, Patrick Macki of Cambridge, Joseph (Jennifer) Macki of Becker; 14 grand children and one great grandchild; and sisters Cora (Ernest) Korpi, Margaret (Robert) Nehiba, Jeannie (Lloyd) Schumann, and Evelyn (Dennis) Bruce.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Toby and Josephine and his sisters Barbara Arro and Ellen Lee Whitney.
