Obituary of Edna Johnson
Edna E. Johnson of Cambridge, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 23, 2010 at Grace Pointe Crossing Gables West at the age of 98.
She was born on March 9, 1912 to Anna (Larson) and John Lundgren, on a farm located in what is now Puma Road in Minnesota's west Wyanett township. Edna attended high school at Bethel Academy, graduating with honors in 1933. She was employed for ten years as a rural school educator after graduating from Cambridge Normal School. She taught in a variety of places: Walbo, Pine Brook, West Wyanett, South Isanti and, during the war, Stanchfield. She had a reputation for being a good teacher.
On Thanksgiving Day 1941, Edna married Gene Johnson at the Lundgren home in Stanchfield. Soon after their marriage they made their home on a small farm in Spring Vale. Upon retirement from farming they moved to Grandy and later to Mill Ridge Commons in Cambridge. Gene preceded her in death in 1991.
Edna was a member of the Spring Vale Baptist Church. Her skill as a rural educator made her a valuable Sunday School teacher in this little country church. She worked with the youth and served on many boards and committees. Edna loved Jesus and she lived with a sense of the abiding and welcoming presence of God as her source and her protector. She faithfully read her Bible and prayed. She wanted others to also know the message of God's inclusive and all embracing love.
She is survived by her daughters, Boni Johnson (Hal Hiebert) of Lacrosse, WI and Carol (Lee) Anderson of Cambridge; 4 grandchildren, Tim (Cyndy Vermillion) Deckert of Aurora, OR, Rick Deckert of Lacrosse WI, Sarah Deckert (Kurt) Scott of Lacrosse, Sandra Anderson (Randee Hom) of Cambridge; 9 great grandchildren, Lindsay, Courtney and Zachery Triemert; Nicholas, Kaia, Ciara, Chianna Deckert; Kallan and Karina Deckert Scott and her youngest brother Paul (Ruth) Lundgren.
In addition to her husband, Gene, Edna was preceded in death by two brothers, Waldemar and Raymond and her sister, Helene Bleed
