Obituary of Tommy Slater
Tommy Nels Slater, 68, of Bloomington, formerly of Cambridge passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 6, 2010.
He was born May 19, 1942 to Nathan and Charlotte (Nyberg) Slater in Mrs. Birch's maternity home in Cambridge. Tom started school at the Moody School in East Cambridge and also attended one year at West Riverside School before transferring to Cambridge in the fourth grade. Tom had a real affection for motorcycles and even raced in his younger years.
On September 3, 1964 he was united in marriage to Maralyn Marquardsen and to this union three children were born, Terry Robert, Jay Douglas and Cindy Lynae. Most of his adult life Tommy worked as a heavy equipment mechanic with the Local 49ers Union. In the 1970's he worked on the Alaskan Pipeline. He also sold real estate for a few years in the 1980's, and was an over the road truck driver in the 1990's. Since his retirement, Tom has spent winters in Arizona and summers in Minnesota enjoying time with his kids, grandkids, family and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Duane. He is survived by his children Terry (Allison) Slater of Ramsey, Jay (Glee) Slater of Rosemount, Cindy Slater of Eagan, seven grandchildren Alyssah, Jena, Austin, Joshua, Zachary, Ryan and Andrew, brothers Charles (Marie) Slater of Princeton, John (Nancy) Slater of Cambridge, sister Judy Ziebarth of Cambridge, sister-in-law Karen Padget Slater of St. Louis Park, aunts Deloris Nyberg of Richfield, Erica Hiser of Pinkney, MI, former wife Maralyn of Bloomington, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
