Obituary of Dorothy Olson

Dorothy L. Olson, 90, of Princeton passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Cambridge Medical Center. Dorothy Lorraine (Thompson) Olson was born June 11, 1920 in Wyanett Township, MN the ninth of 12 children born to Elmer and Alma (Sederlund) Thompson. She grew up on the family farm and attended a one room school house for eight years, district #46. In 1939 she left home for work in Rockford, IL and worked at National Lock for a short time, at American Cabinet, and at Barber Coleman where she made supplies for World War II. In 1944 she attended Free Church Bible School in Chicago, now Trinity College, graduating in May 1946. On September 28, 1946 she was united in marriage to Vernon Olson at the Wyanett Free Church. They farmed a dairy farm in the Karmel Community for 54 years, and raised their six children. She was a homemaker for most of her life and helped out on the farm, milking cows and running for parts. A large part of mom's life was hospitality. We enjoyed many great times around the table with friends and family and of course Mom's homemade bread with butter melting all over. It was the best. For a few years she filled in for the Cambridge and Isanti school district as a sub in the Kitchen and the class room, working with disabled kids. She attended the Karmel Covenant Church and taught Sunday school, helped with AWANA and Women's Ministries. She was also the President of the Braham District Women's group and for many years taught Release Time in Princeton. After retiring from farming, Dorothy and Vernon did some traveling throughout the US and also Canada. Vernon passed away on June 1, 2000 and Dorothy moved to RiverHills in September 2002. Dorothy enjoyed her time at RiverHills, visiting with others and enjoyed being a part of all the many activities. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Alma Thompson, husband Vernon, brothers Wallace, Lawrence, Woodrow, Warren and Edsel Thompson, sisters Gladys Anderson, Lillian Palmquist, Marion Lundgren, Mildred Swanson, and Frances Carlson, twin grandsons Jonathan and Daniel, sons of Lee and Julie Olson. Dorothy is survived by six children and their families, daughter Crystal (Randy) Sieckert of Princeton, Lynette (Terry) Gageby, Kyle, Brandon and Kevin, Scott (Carla) Sieckert, Tyler and Morgan, Nicole (Bradley) Lenzen and Isabella, daughter Linda (Ron) Howard, Jason (Shannon) Howard, Jacob, Kaylin and Joshua, Erin Howard, Rachel (Andrew) Fulton, Isaac and Claire, Ben (Katie) Howard, Lydia, Caleb, Ella and Levi, son Lee (Julie) Olson of Princeton, Jennifer Olson, Erika (JJ) Johnson, Kaleb and Alek, Tim Olson, son Chuck (Kim) Olson of Lindstrom, Chad Olson, Danielle (Brent) Hall, Makayla and Logan, David Olson and Nathan, son Ken (Cheryl) Olson of New Brighton, Karli, Josh and Alexandra, Kim (John) Trester of Calgary, Alberta, Hannah Trester, Jared and Katie, brother Donald Thompson of Princeton, sisters-in-law Violet Thompson of Rockford, IL, Virginia Thompson of Princeton, Evy Thompson and Margie Thompson both of Alexandria, and several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
