Obituary of Charles Matteson

Charles "Sammy" Matteson, 63, of Staples passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Charles Samuel Matteson, better known as Sammy, was born October 29, 1943 at the Medford farm in North Carolina (his home in Haywood County). From North Carolina, he moved to Florida in 1955, then to Tennessee before coming to Minnesota in 1962. While in Minnesota, he met Harriet Lafrance and had one daughter, Tammy Marie in 1968. In 1978, Sam moved to Omaha, Nebraska for a short time, but soon returned to Minnesota to live in South Minneapolis. In 1985, he went back to Omaha and stayed with Dinah and helped raise her son Code before returning to Minnesota in 1993. He has made Minnesota his home ever since. He was preceded in death by his father Marvin Gilbert Matteson Sr. in 1982, mother Verchie Lee Berry in 2001, three infant brothers Ryley Carl, Willis Dean and Martez Don and recently passed brother Wade Andrew "Andy". He is survived by daughter Tammy and husband Jerry Erkkila of Brooklyn Park, three grandchildren Michelle Lynn of Big Lake, Alicia Marie of Brooklyn Park and Greg Allen of Oak Grove, great-granddaughter Taylor Marie, sister Jessie Mathews of Cambridge, brothers Marvin Matteson of Indianapolis, and Joel Matteson Sr. of Cambridge, and many other relatives and friends.
