Obituary of Bernice Engmark
Bernice Leona Engmark, 91, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East.
She was born April 21, 1919 in Fish Lake Township, Minnesota to George and Emma (Carlson) Hawkinson. Bernice attended grade school in Stark and graduated from high school in North Branch as Salutatorian of her class.
On May 10, 1941 she was united in marriage to Robert Engmark and they had two children RaeMona and Steven. Bernice worked at the Cambridge State Hospital and retired in April 1981 after working there for 28 years.
Bernice was a lifelong member of Fish Lake Lutheran Church and was active in all activities. In her middle age years, she purchased an accordion and taught herself to play. She played at the church annual corn feed for 20 years. Bernice and a piano playing friend played in all the nearby nursing homes and other places.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert on December 31, 1984, son Steven, daughter RaeMona Engmark Smith, sister Betty Hawkinson and brother Floyd Hawkinson.
Bernice is survived by two grandchildren Randall Smith and wife Anna Kotowska of Minneapolis, Jennifer Smith-Kristensen and husband Ben Kristensen of Minneapolis, three great grandchildren Samuel, Abigail and Isabel Kristensen, sister Dorothy Carlson of Roseville, brother Kenneth Hawkinson of Fridley, as well as nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
