Obituary of Gene Norling
Gene Duaine Norling, 60, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at the Green Acres Country Care Center.
He was born February 5, 1946 in Mora, Minnesota to Griffith and Lorraine (Hanson) Norling. He grew up in the Brunswick area where he attended the Brunswick Country School and graduated from Mora High School in 1964. Soon after high school Gene entered the U.S Army in November 1965. Gene served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in November 1967. Upon his return he worked for a short time at the egg plant in Cambridge before starting his job at Schlagel, where he worked for many years until November 2006.
On June 28, 1975 he was united in marriage to Karen Lindgren at the Karmel Covenant Church. They made their home in Cambridge until 1983 when they moved to a hobby farm in the Skogman/Pine Lake area east of Cambridge.
Gene was a member of the VFW and The American Legion. He found peace spending time at home and caring for his animals on his farm, something that he learned to enjoy when was a young boy in 4-H.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dale Norling and Randy Norling.
Gene is survived by his wife Karen, brothers Gary and wife Shirley Norling of Mora, John and wife Linda Norling of Mora, Lee and wife Toni Norling of East Bethel, Dick and wife Jo Norling of Mora, sisters Sharon and husband Ance McIntosh of Casa Grande, AZ, Judy and husband Doyce Simon of Casa Grande, AZ, Gloria and husband Bruce Rittenauer of Princeton, Janie and husband Wes Peterman of Mora, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1PM, Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the Karmel Covenant Church with Rev. Alan Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM, Tuesday at the Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Harley and Yvonne Olson, accompanied by Tammy Olson will provide the special music. Pallbearers will be Mark Lindgren, Keith Schafer, Bob Lindgren, Bill Norling, Les Lindquist and Jeff Thorson. Interment will be in the Karmel Covenant Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Cambridge American Legion.
