Dear Dede and family, My deepest sympathies on Charlie's death. He was such a kind neighbor to our family. Your entire family played a pivotal role in my teenage years, and your babysitting dollars were all invested in my college education! My mother often mentioned you and Charlie as the kind drivers who took her to Eastern Star meetings in Cambridge and Princeton. It was comforting for the Ledin children to know that you and Charlie were keeping an eye on our parents. Thank you for being such a significant and loving presence in our lives. Thanks be to God for the life of Charlie Phillips. We who knew him have been blessed. Lovingly, Jan Ledin Michaletz

To the Charlie Phillips Family. I bet we have memories for every year we lived in Cambridge together. That's what I call great friendship. I'm so grateful for all of those memories in my life and that so many of them put a smile on my face and even make me laugh. When you lived near Birch Street and you became the middle initial in our first dog's name. Do you remember that? We couldn't come up with a name. Then, one day, Dad came home from work saying "we should call him Loffer P. Bergson". We all loved the name as he explained... "P. for Phillips, Berg for Sundberg and son for Johnson. We had a great little block of friends there, didn't we? The Gunderson's and then the Ross Curtis Family, the Don Johnson Family, then the next door down was the Don and Ellie Sundberg's, and across the street we had H.E. and Alice Olson...you guys were across the street from the Sundberg's, then down to Doc Hofstad and Dorothy's, then up the alley to the Bob Hupfers...and there we sat, the Dablow's house, across from the old water tower...and the library so conveniently located. Those were the days! The Dalles House, Val Croix, 1st United Methodist Church, lots of fruit cakes. Off went Chuck to the Air Force Academy... my Dad was so proud of him! We all were. Gregg off to study science (now veterinary medicine) and Michael... doing something with sales and pharmacy as I recall. I can remember when Jay and Kim were about to have their first child, Lindsay -... we needed a phone for them to call with their news from California ... (I don't remember where my folks were) anyway, it was Charlie and Dede who got the very first call in Cambridge saying Lindsay Dawn was born. I feel so grateful to be back in touch with Chuck and Gregg and Mim (thank you, Facebook!). You are in our thoughts and prayers this Thanksgiving. Mom and I will see you this weekend. Until then, much love to the Phillips family from the Dablow family.

A true gentleman. Although I only saw Charlie and Mike once or twice a year over the past 10 years, it was always a pleasure. Charlie was a good man who will continue to live in many hearts for many, many years. God's blessings.

We are very sorry to hear of Charlie's passing, but know that he is now at peace. Jan and I are fortunate to have purchased the "Phillips Cabin" on Lake Blanche many years ago. When Charlie would come to visit Sam they occasionally would come down to check out the old place and share their stories of growing up at the lake. Charlie's face would light up as the memories came flooding back. We are better for having known Charlie and being part of the history of what will always be known as the "Phillips Cabin." Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you and all of yours. Steve and Jan Nelson

Dede; I told Sam before we left for AZ that I would like to drive to Cambridge and see Chuck. Between his condition and my wife Claudia's, it didn't happen. I am so sorry to hear of his death. We not only were Lake Blanche friends from the early 50s, we were fraternity brothers at NDSU as well. Ensuing years enabled me to be close to Chuck and Jim at the store, as we had a great retailer/supplier relationship for many years. God Bless. Kent Olson

Although I never met Charlie, I had a wonderful phone conversation with him concerning the Austin Brothers who were friends of my husband and I. My son Bob and his wife Liz talk often about Dede and Charlie and I feel like I know both of you. My sympathy to the Phillips family. God Bless. Laura Sandy

We have fond memories of Charlie from our winters at Voyager RV Resort, and our occasional times together in the Minnesota summer. Charlie was the real deal, his smile and kindnesses will be long remembered. We enjoyed his barbershop music with the Coyote Chorus and an occasional quartet. Bob enjoyed golfing with Charlie. He will be missed. Lots of love to you, Dede, and your family. Wish we could be there to give you hugs. Ann and Bob
