Obituary of Marlis Gronberg
Loving wife, awesome mom, amazing grandma & wonderful great-grandma passed away on January 25, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 75 in Cambridge, Minnesota.
Marlis was born on July 29, 1935, the only child to Esther and Trygve Lervick, in Bottineau, ND. She graduated from Bismarck High School & attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.
She married Chuck on Feb 8, 1958 in Bismarck, ND where they started their family with Kjia (Orstad), twins Guy Gronberg & Gwen (Daly). A career move for Chuck brought the family to Cambridge, MN where they completed their family by adding Trent Gronberg. She was also mom to AFS student Dr. Tom Backlund of Helsinki, Finland. She worked for many years at the Cambridge Star, served countless volunteer hours helping the Cambridge Hockey Association, assisted school clubs that her children participated in, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the food pantry, the Shalom shop & she cherished the many hours spent volunteering in many ways at Cambridge Lutheran Church.
Marlis was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed helping sew uniforms for the Blaine drum line and assisted in sewing many costumes for drama productions. She loved to sew, knit, drink coffee, plan events, & entertain. Her favorite guests were her children & grandchildren, along with their friends, sports teams or ministry groups. She always had coffee on or a pizza in the oven for whoever stopped in no matter what time it was. She enjoyed playing cards, taking day trips and weekend trips with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Charles Edward (Chuck) Gronberg.
Marlis is survived by her children; Kjia (Chuck) Orstad of Raymore MO, Guy (Diana) Gronberg of Lee's Summit MO, Gwen (Todd) Daly of Coon Rapids MN & Trent (Carolyn) Gronberg of Lee's Summit MO, Grandchildren; Charissa (Nate Rosser), Chase (Tara), Cayle, & Chressin Orstad, Gavin, Grace, Glori & Gage Gronberg, Erin, April & Brian Daly, Gaeton & Gunnar Gronberg; Great-Grandchildren: Aurora & North Orstad.
