Obituary of Donald Turnquist
Donald Douglas Turnquist, 82, of Baxter, formerly of St. Francis passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at his home.
He was born August 13, 1924 in Braham, Minnesota. He lived in Braham before moving to Dalbo where he attended country school. After his schooling he joined the Unites States Marine Corps. Don served during World War II and was honorably discharged on February 2, 1946.
On February 8, 1947 he was united in marriage to Inez Paulson in Minneapolis, MN. They lived for a short time in Rockford, Illinois before moving to St. Francis. Don worked for many years at Land O' Lakes and retired at age 55. Don and Inez enjoyed their retirement years in the Brainerd area. Don enjoyed playing card games, fishing, polka music, watching Lawrence Welk and especially spending time with family. He always talked about the trip he and Inez made to Alaska and wanted to go there again. He was a member of the St. Francis American Legion and also the Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Christine Ann Palmer, aunt Annabelle Turnquist, and the Mongsene family members.
Don is survived by his wife Inez of Baxter, daughters Carol and husband Tom Palmer of Blaine, Sue Turnquist of Blaine, Julie and husband Stewart Poff of Andover, Deb and husband Dana Luikens of Nevis, Jodi and husband John Martin of Talmoon, Kim and husband Roland Olson of Isanti, son Mike Turnquist of Mound, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, half sister Jane and husband Walter Nelson of St. Joseph, as well as other relatives and friends.
