Obituary of Hazel Engstrom
Hazel C. Engstrom, 88, of Cambridge, MN, Passed away on May 7, 2007.
Hazel was born February 5, 1919 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Hulda and Enoch Carlson. She grew up and attended school in Minneapolis. She was confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church.
On June 25, 1949, she married Earl Roger Engstrom. After living several years in Minneapolis, they moved to Grandy in 1956. In 1967 they moved to Cambridge, MN, after building a home on Skogman Lake. Hazel worked as an accountant for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Cambridge and in Minneapolis. Hazel retired in 1979 after 20 years with the company.
Hazel was an active member of Cambridge Lutheran Church. She loved the Lord and her ministry was to reach out and help others. She was very proud of being a charter member of the Shalom Thrift Store. Hazel spent 25+ years volunteering at the shop. She was a member of the Miriam Circle, taught Sunday school for many years and used her bookkeeping skills to process the offerings each week for the church. She also volunteered at the hospital gift shop.
Hazel enjoyed a variety of activities. Roller-skating, traveling, camping, gardening, sewing and enjoying the beauty of God's creation.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, sister Christine and brother Charles. Survived by son Richard Engstrom and wife Faye Isanti, Grandchildren Emily and husband Micah Peterson of Andover, Caleb and wife Melissa Engstrom of Ft. Myers, Florida, Darbie and husband Joe Soltis of Champlin.
