Obituary of Evelyn Hahn

Evelyn L. VanAlstine Hahn, 90, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, February 25, 2011 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West. She was born on May 20, 1920 in Saskatchewan Canada to Clara(Thompson)and Charles Johnson, Evelyn's family moved to Minnesota when she was an infant. Evelyn spent most of her childhood in Opstead, MN and she graduated from Isle High School as valedictorian of her class. After graduation she moved to Minneapolis and worked for Munsingwear and at the Arsenal during WWII. On October 27, 1945 she married Raymond VanAlstine. To this union two children were born Eugene Ronald and Lois Carol. During early years of their marriage they lived in numerous places in Minnesota and settled in Cambridge in 1954. While the family was young Evelyn was a stay at home mom and later worked at Control Data in Cambridge for a number of years. Evelyn and Ray were early members of the Cambridge Methodist Church. Family activities included the Rum River Saddle Club square dancing and supporting the children's activities especially 4-H. In their retirement Evelyn and Ray spent winters in Texas, which she enjoyed very much. Ray passed away in November of 1977 and on August 14, 1982 she married Huck(Everett) Hahn from South Dakota. Evelyn and Huck enjoyed retirement by spending winters in Arizona traveling all over the US in their motor home and dancing at the Senior dances. In the winter of 2008 they moved to Mill Ridge Commons where Huck passed away in February of 2009. Evelyn moved to her Riverwood apartment in September of 2009 until her death. She was a longtime member of the Cambridge United Methodist Church and was involved with the Women's Auxiliary. Evelyn loved to laugh, she had a love for animals, and enjoyed crocheting, for which many people benefited from her many crafts. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents an infant brother, her sister Myrtle Morton and two husbands Ray VanAlstine and Huck Hahn. She is survived by son Eugene (Shari) VanAlstine of Cambridge, daughter Lois (Wayne) Boettcher of Isanti, step children Arleen (Dwight) Bietz of Tripp, SD, David (Carol) Hahn of Wall, SD, Dale (Kathy) Hahn of Maple Plain, six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.
