Obituary of Vernon Johnson
Vernon Dale Johnson, 85, of Stanchfield passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 at his home.
He was born January 24, 1926 in Rock Lake Township, Lyon County, Minnesota to Martin and Viola (Cunningham) Johnson. Vernon grew up in the Russell area where he attended country school. In May 1946 he joined the United Sates Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in June 1947.
On August 22, 1948 he was united in marriage to Berniece Christians at the Presbyterian Church in Russell, MN. They had four children and farmed in the Tyler area for a few years before moving to Isanti county. Vern worked at Bros Broiler in Minneapolis for a number years and later farmed more full time. After retiring he drove road grader for Athens Township. In 1990 he and Berniece moved to Maple Ridge and have lived there since.
Vernon was a member of the Springvale Baptist Church, and the Cambridge American Legion. Vernon enjoyed working with wood, and crafting metal. He enjoyed working around the house. He was a wonderful husband, dad and family man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Larry, sisters Jane Unger, Vivian Buchert, and Fern Nelson, brothers Dudley and Merlin. Vernon is survived by his wife Berniece, sons Rick and wife Cheryl Johnson of Cambridge, Ron Johnson of Mora, daughter Janice and husband Larry Wetther of Stanchfield, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, sister Eleanor Kroetch of Philip, SD, brothers Dolan Johnson of Russell, MN, Dick Johnson of Arizona, Darrel Johnson of Balaton, MN, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
