Obituary of Emil Stanina
Emil Joseph Stanina, 95, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2011, three days before his 96th birthday at GracePointe Crossing Gables West.
He was born May 8, 1915 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Louis and Mary (Matuszyk) Stanina. He lived a short time in Minneapolis and at a young age his family moved to a farm near Middle River, MN. Emil attended country school and also helped out on the family farm. Emil and his brother would go on to take over the family farm.
On November 22, 1947 Emil was united in marriage to Helen Krysinski at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in North Branch. They farmed and raised their family on the farm until 1965 when the farm was sold and the family moved to Cambridge. Emil began carpentry work and was involved with the building of several homes and churches. After retiring from carpentry, Emil also worked a number of years in the maintenance department at the Cambridge Hospital until he was into his early 80's. In 1997 Emil and Helen moved into Ashland Place. Helen passed away in May 2005. In October 2010 Emil moved into GracePointe Crossing Gables West.
Emil was a longtime active member of Christ The King Catholic Church and served as an usher for many years. He also volunteered at the Grandview Christian Home. He enjoyed working in carpentry and could fix anything. He liked to play cards, Polka dancing, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, one sister in childhood, sister Julia Johnson, brothers Walter, Edward and Frank. Emil is survived by children Janet (Wally) Mohler of North Branch, Jenny (Bob) McReynolds of Ramsey, Jim (Connie) Stanina of Ham Lake, JoAnne (Pat) Marsyla of Cloquet, five grandchildren Janell Mohler, Nicholas (Jessica) Mohler, Ryan (Tonya) Stanina, Brandon (Amanda) Stanina, Sarah Marsyla, seven great grandchildren Harmony, Breck, Brianna, Alyssa, Kayla, Allison and Wyatt, as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
