Obituary of Betty Asp
Elizabeth Mae "Betty" Asp, 86, of Cambridge, formerly of Long Prairie passed away on Friday, July 1, 2011 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West.
Although her given name was Elizabeth, Betty was the name we all knew her by. Born to Jay R. Drown and Mary Cross Drown on August 19, 1924 near Curlew, Iowa. She had 6 older brothers and sisters; a younger sister died in infancy.
She went to Curlew Public Schools, graduating in 1941. Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa was the college of her choice where after two years of training she could teach in town schools. She graduated in 1943 and spent two years in teaching in elementary grades.
Betty became a Christian when she was young after believing the Scripture in John 5:24 "He that heareth my word and believeth on Him who sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but is passed from death unto life" while teaching school God had been speaking to her about going to Bible School to prepare for Christian service. So in 1945 she went to Northwestern Bible School in Minneapolis. Here she met George Asp; after graduation they were married on June 14, 1948. They had three children, Ron, Judy and David.
George and Betty served faithfully in several pastorates in Minnesota for 35 years. They retired in 1983, moving to Long Prairie, Minnesota where George died in 1994. Betty moved to Cambridge in 1997.
Her parents, husband George, brothers, sisters and son Ronald preceded her in death.
