Obituary of Floyd Olson
Floyd went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2012 after a 12 year battle with cancer.
Floyd Clifford Olson was born at home to Clifford and Rena Olson in Blomford, Minnesota on July 6, 1941. Floyd graduated from Cambridge High School in 1959. He attended the University of Minnesota for 1 year and was active in the Naval Reserve until 1961 when he received a medical discharge.
Floyd married his childhood sweetheart, Faye, on August 5, 1961 and God blessed them with 5 children. Floyd began his construction career at Knutson Construction in 1961. He worked on many projects including the airport, office buildings and parking garages. In 1971 Floyd started his own company, Floyd Olson Builders. He built 60+ homes in Isanti County, owned and operated Lumberland Homecenter in Cambridge, constructed UPS in Isanti and Eagan, built Isanti BP Gas Station, remodeled Peoples Bank of Cambridge, built an addition on Cambridge Lutheran Church. Along with these projects he also built many churches and buildings in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. In the mid 1980's Floyd and Faye established West Gate Plaza in Cambridge which Floyd owned and managed up until the time of his death.
Floyd dedicated his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized in 1969. He became a member of Elim Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years. He traveled to Trinidad with Floyd Ankerberg Ministries and served on the mission field. In 1992 he built a home in Punta Gorda, Florida. There he attended First Assembly in Fort Meyers, Florida where he went on the mission field to Europe and South America. He built dorm rooms for Masters Commission Students in Denmark, remodeled a seminary in Belgium and helped build a church in Equador. Floyd loved to make stain glass projects and created and donated many pieces for churches and friends in Florida and overseas. In 1993, Floyd and Faye traveled to Israel with First Assembly. Although they had been to many places together over the years, it was their favorite trip.
Floyd cherished his wife and family. He loved to travel, especially across the country in his motorhome with his family and many friends, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, ice cream, fudge, gardening, stain glassing and watching and feeding birds. His favorite passion was truly helping people. He spent much of his time in the service of others putting their needs before his own. He was a wonderful man that loved life and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steve, parents Clifford and Rena Olson.
Floyd is survived by his devoted wife Faye, children; Shannon (Maria) of Cambridge, Sheldon (Jeanne) of Cambridge, Darla Orr of Fort Myers, Florida, Dee Dee (Andy) Larsen of Cambridge; sisters Viola Young of Cambridge, Ruthie (Willard) Falk of Cambridge; granddaughters Rena, Darah, Drewanna, Whitney, Darla, Alex, Lindsey, Kara, Britni; grandsons Brady, Jesse, Lincoln, Brennon, Barie, Christopher, Alec; nieces, nephews, family and many friends. Floyd touched the lives of so many people and helped make this world a better place…..
