Sorry to hear of Laura's passing, just discovered it while searching for her. She was one of the most talented and hardworking people I had ever worked with---I was privileged to collaborate with her on building a general-purpose analysis tool for C++. She was amazing programmer, one of the best.

I am so sorry to hear of Laura's passing. I only knew her virtually through OI websites, but appreciated reading her posts and the information that she shared. She will be missed in the OI community and beyond. My deepest sympathy to her family.

I never met Laura in person, but I did get to know her through numerous emails that we exchanged when my grandson Jonathan Phelps was born in 2000 also with OI. She was always so cheerful and uplifting in her personal emails to me and to those on OI email lists that we both belonged to. What am amazing person and intellect she was. So humble, too, as I never knew many of her accomplishments that I read in her obituary. I am sorry for your loss. She was a good woman. My daughter and son in law also graduated from BYU. Jonathan hopes to go there one day, too.

I was remembering Laura as I looked back on the year, and found this memorial page through a web search.
I miss Laura's voice and her positive persistence.
I will keep here memory as an inspiration to live my life well.
Just for the record: A key contribution by Laura to the early development of C++ was that she invented look-ahead parsing techniques needed to disambiguate C++'s syntax. The early evolution of C++ would have been more difficult than it was without her contribution.

Lois
I am so very sorry. I have just googled Laura in an attempt to contact you both and shocked to read this tribute. Laura is a great lady, and a fighter just like her mum. How are you Lois? I know you will miss Laura tremendously. You are and have been GREAT friends together. Please take of yourself. Why won't you come to UK for a break? I shall show you around and take care of you. PLEASE COME.
Lots of love

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time Lois. I remember playing with her when she came to visit Dora and Sterling when we were kids. It's amazing to see all she did. May she rest in peace.

Blessings to the family of Laura, who has been a real inspiration to myself and the caregivers at Visiting Angels.
In the past year, it is almost continuous that caregivers have asked for updates regarding Laura. The caregivers who have been involved with Laura have all stated similar feelings - the gift of knowing her and Lois, the inspiration they received knowing how many odds Laura defied, and the joy she would bring to them with her sense of humor!
For myself - Lois has been an inspiration as well. We both share the gift of having girls that have defied odds. When having discussions with Lois regarding our challenges, I always looked at Lois to keep pushing. She confirmed for me that fact that we know our daughters better than any Dr., and we won't take know when we know in our hearts the Dr.'s are wrong.
Two beautiful ladies, whom all have met have received a gift from just knowing them.
Blessing to Lois and her family during this difficult time.

Laura was one of my five first cousins. I remember the day she was born. Brother, Donny Jr. had been sent to stay with us in Sioux Falls until baby and mom were settled at home. We all thought it was nice that our new cousin was a girl.
Laura was quite an amazing woman. In spite of many medical issues, she was a happy active little girl, who grew to be a very intelligent and accomplished woman with many interests. I was amazed at her ability to look adversity in the eye and advocate for what she needed. She told me once that since she did not know how much time she would have, she did not feel that she could waste it. She was always busy. A phone conversation with her could go on for an hour or more.
Her family was important to her and she loved you all. Lindi
