Our thoughts and prayers with the Larson family. We go back to the beginning in Cambridge. I have family letters finding the Larsons, Dablows and Hupfers at the Del Mar apts in the early 50's. Rest in peace, Scott. Our condolences, the John Dablow family.

I am going to borrow from an old sports anecdote for my remembrances of Scott (with no apologies to Reggie). Lars was “the straw that stirred the drink.” He was the idea man, the ring leader, the ramrod, the man with the plan, the alpha dog in our close knit little pack on 4th floor North- Gustavus Adolphus College.
Whether it was organizing a quick pick up game of hoops at the field house, a trip to “the cities” to see the Gophers, a weekend ski trip to Lutsen or a week long odyssey to Big Sky Montana- it was always Lars who got us motivated and got things rolling. He was a man of action not a spectator.
My favorite was when he would return from a weekend visit home with “the Quis”. Doc Larson would generously allow him to drive the Mercury Marquis (a gigantic boat of a vehicle) back to campus. It served as our wheels- the team bus if you will and its most important route was the late night Pizza run to Mankato. I can’t even guess at the number of times Scott coerced and coaxed us out of our beds, back into our clothes and headed down the road to our favorite haunt- Pagliai’s Pizza. I can almost taste it now- what a midnight snack!
I know for me student life in little St. Peter would have been awfully vanilla without his charismatic lead in all things fun. Scott was instrumental in many milestones in my young life- coming of age sort of things. My first drink ordered in a bar- Superior, Wisconsin, across the bridge and bay from UMD. The fastest I’ve ever ridden in a car, a leased yellow Corvette convertible- 135 mph. He was a groomsman in my wedding and one of the first babysitters for my oldest son, Pete. He brought “Young” Steve Carlson- one of my most endearing longtime friends into our circle when he enrolled at Gustavus in 1973. He introduced me to the only girlfriend I ever had at Gustavus, another lovely Cambridge native who’s intelligence and talents had me completely mezzmorized over one long St. Peter winter. And of course another wonderful lifetime friend, George Rindelaub, an undersized starting linebacker for the Gusties, who was napping right across the dormitory hall through many of these episodes.
His most enduring organized event was the annual golf trip to Moose Lake and the G.E. Larson estate’s wonderful little log cabin on the shores of Sand Lake. Boating, barbequing, and golf ‘til you drop- it became one of the most cherished weekends of every passing year in our lives.
“Every close friendship offers the same fundamental thrill: Someone has singled you out and chosen you, someone who had no obligation to do so.”
I very recently heard it said, “When someone we love and cherish is in heaven- heaven becomes our home too.” The time spent praying for them and remembering their contributions to our lives offers us wonderful spiritual glimpses and little inspiring visits into their new heavenly home.
Bless Scott and his family.
-Kendall Compton

We were saddened to learn of Scott's passing and offer our condolences. During the years we were in Cambridge (70's and 80's) we saw how important it was to have had home town leaders like Scott with a strong sense of community. Greg still can't watch Monty Python without thinking of Scott (and a couple others).
