Maralyn Slater

Obituary of Maralyn J. Slater

Maralyn June Slater, 72 of Bloomington, passed away peacefully in her home on December 23, 2015. Maralyn was born to Hans and Edith Marquardsen in Woodstock, MN on May 4, 1943. Her family then moved to Pipestone, MN in 1948. At age 12, her family bought a farm in Cambridge, MN. Maralyn graduated from Cambridge High School in 1961. She moved to Minneapolis and started a career in banking. Maralyn married Tommy Slater of Cambridge, MN in 1964. They raised 3 children Terry, Jay & Cindy. They bought their first home in Richfield, MN in 1968. They moved to Bloomington, MN in 1979. She worked at Health Partners as a Pharmacy Technician from 1981-2000 then at Aspen Medical Clinic from 2000-2007 at which time she retired. In May 2014 after 35 years of living in Bloomington Maralyn sold her home and moved into an assisted living apartment at Keystone Communities in Eagan. Maralyn was happiest in the time spent with her family. She especially enjoyed the countless get togethers for holidays and birthdays. She could always be found at the dining room table starting up a game of hand and foot during these occasions. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren. She found great joy in playing with them, as well as watching and helping them learn and grow. Maralyn was also proud of her home and worked hard to make it a welcoming place to gather. In the summertime she enjoyed going to garage sales and finding a good deal on items for her home. Whenever possible, she liked to try to make improvements like painting a room or getting new carpet or a piece of furniture. That made her happy. She enjoyed swimming in her pool with her children and grandchildren She also enjoyed her gardens and flower pots she had displayed around the front of her house. Petunias, lilies, double impatiens, peonies, and hostas could be found, but the roses were her favorite. Maralyn also found time to travel occasionally. Even though she didn't like airplanes, trips were taken to Florida, Michigan, Arizona, California and Washington to visit family and friends. Even though recent years were tough on her, she appreciated the time she had and the opportunity to see two granddaughters get married, as well as the birth of her great-grandson. We will miss her greatly. Preceded in death by parents Hans & Edith Marquardsen, Brother Ronnie Marquardsen. Survived by sons Terry (Allison) of Ramsey, Jay (Glee) of Rosemount, daughter Cindy Slater of Eagan; 7 grandchildren Alyssah (Connor) Jones, Jena (Matt) Ward, Austin, Joshua, Zachary, Ryan and Andrew Slater; 1 great-grandchild Jaxton Jones; Brother Bernie (Jane) Marquardsen of Milaca.
