She was the first born of parents Eben and Verna (Barthine) Dahlman in a back room of the summer kitchen of the Dahlman farm in Cambridge Township on November 25, 1925. She grew up on that farm and helped with house and farm work including riding the newly designed Dahlman Potato Picker; picking out vines and weeds as potatoes moved up the conveyor to be bagged on the rear end of the machine.

She then returned to Minnesota and worked as Christian Education director at her home church in Stanchfield, MN, after which she moved to Temple Baptist Church in Rockford, IL and directed their Christian Education program. After seven years she was called by the Baptist General Conference headquarters in Illinois, where she was in charge of setting up the GMG (Girls Missionary Guild), was director of Christian Women’s Ministry and other Education programs.
She traveled the world representing the Conference. In 1994 she and her roommate Ruth Bertell went to Russia to help the Baptists there set up Women’s ministry programs.
Dorothy was an excellent writer and published books on women’s ministry. Her hobby was collecting her photos and articles together in scrap books for each endeavor with which she was engaged.
In 2000 Dorothy and Ruth moved to Cambridge to live in the River Hills section of GracePointe Crossing. She was active on the board and visitation activities at First Baptist Church. In 2013 they moved to the Commons and lived there until they both passed away in 2016.
