Obituary of Doris J. Mikelson

Doris J. Mikelson, 96, of Ramsey, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016, in Ramsey, surrounded by family. She was born on March 25, 1920, in Cambridge, MN, to Walter and Ida (Anderson) Nelson. She grew up in the Cambridge area, and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1938. She raised her four children (Jacqueline, Janet Meredith, Walter, and Jeanne) in Cambridge and Minneapolis. She retired after working for Univac as an electrical inspector for 38 years. She lived in Minneapolis and Coon Rapids until she moved to Ramsey, where she lived independently until a few months ago, and then made her home with her daughter Jeanne Adkins and Jeanne’s husband Fred. Doris liked crossword puzzles, traveling extensively with family and friends, and had fun taking her grandchildren on trips across the country. She especially loved her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the love of her life. For many years Doris was in a Birthday Club and enjoyed occasional trips to the casino to play the penny slots. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Ida Nelson, brothers Harold, LeRoy, Floyd, and Richard; her sisters Eleanor Nelson, Beatrice Adkins, and Muriel Haver; her daughter Jacqueline Leon (Jose), and her grandson David Leon, Doris is survived by sister Ardelle (Nelson) Hester of Richmond, CA; children Janet Meredith (John) Coelho of Cool, CA; Walter (Pam) Mikelson of Spectacle Lake; and Jeanne Adkins of Ramsey; 11 grandchildren Joey (Kim) Leon, James (Irma) Leon, Robert Coelho (Stephanie Schultz), Doris Coelho (Brad Brooks), Shelly Anderson, Kelli Mikelson, Chris Webb (Kim Manthei), Matthew (Jenny) Webb, Lisa Webb and Jennifer Webb, Debra (Brian) Kennedy; 21 great grandchildren Brian, David, and Jackson Leon, Grace, Mary and John Perrin Coelho, McKenzie and Chaz Anderson, Kaitlin Svoboda-Mikelson, Alissa and Alexis Francen, Ashley, Bethany and Mitchell Webb, Kyler, Kassidy, and Karissa Webb, Lauren and Patrick Kennedy, and the youngest, 4 year old twins Severine and Everett Coelho Brooks.
