Obituary of Florence Painter

Florence V. Painter, 96, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, September 24, 2007 at the Grandview Christian Home. Florence Victoria Painter was born on Oct. 31, 1910 to Jax Anders and Kallur Anna who had arrived in Minneapolis the year before from Rattvik, Sweden. She lived in Northeast Minneapolis until 1916, when she came to live in Cambridge following her mother's death. She was adopted by George and Nelia Medin. She completed 8th grade at the Oak Hill School. She then worked for a number of families in Minneapolis before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be near her birth father. She graduated from high school in Tulsa, and then began nurse's training at the "Morningside Hospital," becoming a registered nurse in 1937. Her nursing career was spent in the Los Angeles area �" at military hospitals during the war, and later as a visiting nurse. She married Gilbert Painter in August of 1949. She was a member of the North Star Vasa Swedish Lodge in California. Florence remained in California until 1986 when she returned to Tulsa, and she moved back to Cambridge in 1998. Florence was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert Painter, her parents, her brother Adolph Larson, her sister Violet Fickett, and her adoptive sister Jeanette Johnson. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Suzanne & Steve Walters, Reid Larson, Kurt, Laura, Erik & Adam Larson, Barry, Pam, Matthew, David, Sara & Jacob Larson, sister-in-law Loraine Larson, James Fickett, Claire Ann, Christopher and Brent Parker. She is also survived by her adoptive family, Lawrence & Elvy Medin, Phyllis & Bob Nelson, Wally & Donna Medin, Yvonne & Joe Cilento.
