Obituary of Mary Hanson
Mary Ann Hanson, 85, of Cambridge died Wednesday, August 2, 2012 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East.
She was born April 24, 1927 to John and Anna Opsahl in Pipestone, Minnesota. The family moved to Bodum during her teenage years. After graduating from Cambridge High School she began working at Anderson Drug Store where she met her best friend and soul mate Doug. Mary and Doug were married on April 4, 1953. They owned and operated Hanson Shoe Store and Shoe Repair Shop from 1951 to 1981. After retirement she worked part time at Leader Department Store for many years. Mary and Doug enjoyed spending time with their family and friends at their cabin on Knife Lake. They always looked forward to their fishing trips.
Family and friends say she was the kindest woman they ever knew. Her biggest enjoyment in life came from spending time with her family and watching her nieces and nephew grow up. She would spoil all the children in her life with all sorts of gifts on every occasion and loved supplying the kids with school supplies each year. She was an active lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Isanti VFW. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards with her sisters and friends in Pine Village.
She was preceded in death by her husband Doug; nephew Brian; parents John and Anna Opsahl; brothers Daniel, Frankie, Martin, Calvin; and sisters Sena, Alma, Florence, Mildred, and Shirley.
Mary is survived by her nephew, Bruce (Kathy) Linden of Princeton; niece Barb (Jim) Dodd of Cambridge; nephew Robert (Nancy) Hansen of North Branch, many great nieces and nephews; and many friends.
