Obituary of Carl J. Lantz
Carl John Lantz, age 85, of Cambridge, MN went to be with the Lord on September 21, 2016.
He was born March 16, 1931 in Shafer, MN to Victor and Adelia (Shoberg) Lantz. Carl grew up in rural Sunrise township, in Chisago county MN where he enjoyed his youth growing up with his 7 siblings and parents. Carl developed a passion for farming while growing up and made it his life long career.
Carl met Joyce Theline, the love of his life, in 1958 while roller skating at the Rush City roller rink. On April 30, 1960 Joyce and Carl were united in marriage at South Isanti Baptist Church near Isanti, MN. After their wedding they moved to the farm near West Rush Lake where they spent the next 34 years farming. Carl was an excellent dairy farmer and took great pride in his dairy operation. Neighbors and friends often commented about not a blade of grass being out of place. Carl won several awards of excellence for Top Dairy Herd over the years as a top producer. In 1967 Joyce and Carl were blessed with their daughter Julie, who grew up on the farm. In 1993 Joyce and Carl decided to retire and sold the farm and relocated to a 10-acre hobby farm west of Braham. Carl loved his yard and gardens and cared for his hobby farm with the same pride as the farm. Carl could be seen often either on his John Deere lawn tractor or working on his yard grooming it to perfection. In 2015, as they realized his health was failing, they moved to Cambridge where they currently reside.
Carl loved his family and enjoyed attending many family gatherings and Alysha's school activities over the years. Carl and Joyce enjoyed their retirement and traveled on several wonderful trips together and with their granddaughter Alysha. He will be especially missed at Christmas for his prank gifts that always seem to add laughter to our family's Christmas celebration. His faith and involvement with his church were the foundation of his life and a focus for him and his family.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Walter, LeRoy, Earl and sisters Helen Dahlstrom and Maurine Iverson.
Carl is survived by Joyce, his wife of 56 years, daughter Julie (Pat) Thiry, foster son George (Sue) Schrunk, granddaughter, Alysha Newsom, and step granddaughters, Sarah (Matt) Solberg and Hannah Thiry, brothers Bert (MaryEllen) Lantz, Roland Lantz and sister-in-law Betty Lantz as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to give a special thank you Allina Hospice for their compassion and care during Carl’s illness.
