Obituary of Ralph Joseph Marty

            Ralph Joseph Marty, 83, of Steamboat Lake near Laporte, MN passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018 at his daughter’s home in Stanchfield.

            He was born April 27, 1935 in Grey Eagle, MN to George and Wilhelmina (Frie) Marty.  Ralph attended elementary school at the Burtrum Country School and graduated from the 8th grade at the Nary School near Bemidji.  After his schooling he worked at the family farm and cutting wood. 

            On October 1, 1955 he was united in marriage to Janice Miller at the Presbyterian Church in Bemidji.  They lived for a short time in Bemidji. Ralph would move to Osseo where he worked for Couriers Concrete.  Janice and their first-born Robin moved there about a year later.  Three daughters joined the family over the next few years.  In 1968, Ralph and his brother Donovan started Marty Brothers Excavating Service, working out and around the twin cities area.  They sold the business in 1996 and retired.  Ralph and Janice remained in Osseo and Janice passed away on April 30, 2005.  After Janice’s death Ralph moved to the cabin on Steamboat Lake near Laporte, MN.

            He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wintering in Zapata, Texas with his brothers, putzing around in the woods, picking berries, and cooking maple syrup.

            Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janice, son Robin and brother Jerome.  He is survived by his daughters Laurie Buckingham of Cambridge, Melanie Marty of Cambridge, Darcy (Rob) Rylander of Stanchfield, daughter-in-law Linda Marty of Champlin, six grandchildren David (Rose) Buckingham, Michael (Jenni) Buckingham, Matthew Marty, Rachel (Tony) Reynero, Leah Moberg, and Zachary Lockhart, two great granddaughters Laura Buckingham and Olivia Lane, siblings Evelyn, Donnie (Helen), Davie (Sandy), Marvin (Donna), Audrey, and Alquin (Bev), special in-laws Loren (Cleo) Miller, Caren Staples, as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

 

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 4-7PM, Friday, August 10, 2018 with a Sharing Time at 6PM at the Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home in Cambridge.  .
