Obituary of Bernetta Ann Sima

            Bernetta A. “Bert” Sima, (nee Leger) 90, of Cambridge, formerly of Zimmerman and Minnetonka passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at GracePointe Crossing.

            She was born on September 11, 1927 in Minneapolis, MN to Amos and Lucille (DeMars) Leger.  Bert grew up in Minneapolis and graduated high school.

            On August 6, 1948 she was united in marriage to Earl Sima, to this union five sons were born.  They raised their boys in Minnetonka.  Bert was a pioneer as the first woman bus driver in the Hopkins School District and did so for several years.  She was a current member of Christ The King Catholic Church. She volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels, assisted with the ladies aide serving at funeral lunches.  Bert also was a reading tutor at the school for many years, she enjoyed gardening, baking, traveling – making several trips to Alaska, and spending time with her family. 

            Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Earl in June 2012, sisters Donna, Carol and Luella, brothers Lawrence and Amos, and her son Rod’s partner Charlie Vaughn.

            Bert is survived by her sons Tom (Diane) Sima of Longville, Rod Sima of Minneapolis, Dan (Betsy) Sima of Aspen, CO, Bill (Paulette) Sima of Grandy, Gary (Mary) Sima of Harris, six grandchildren Derrick, Sara, Joshua, Evan, Tristen and Dan Sima, three great grandchildren Danielle, Jerry and Dixie, sisters Norine Ahmann of Minneapolis, Theresa (Ron) Paulson of Coon Rapids, brother Denny (Lynn) Leger of Driggs, Idaho, brothers-in-law Jim Patterson of Minneapolis, Howie Leathers of Minneapolis, and Roy Sima of Tavares, FL, as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

            Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Cambridge.  Memorial visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Tuesday, September 4 at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Christ The King Catholic Church.
