Obituary of James Wallace Berg
James Wallace Berg, 80, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at his home.
He was born October 23, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN to Wallace and Lucille (Mattson) Berg. The family lived for a time in Minneapolis before moving near Dalbo. Jim was baptized and confirmed at Karmel Covenant Church. The family moved back to Minneapolis and Jim graduated from Minneapolis North High School in 1957. After high school he worked for Burma Shave putting up billboards all over the country. He also sold insurance for a few years.
In September 1964 he was united in marriage to Laural Anderson at Spring Lake Lutheran Church. They lived on the Anderson family farm and raised their son Paul. Jim farmed for several years and later worked at Control Data for 25 years. Laural’s health declined so Jim retired to care for her. Laural passed away in May 1994. In his retirement years he drove school bus for the Cambridge school district until 2014. He would later meet Diane Johnson and they were married November 28, 1998 at Fish Lake Lutheran Church. They made their home on the farm. More recently Paul took over the farm so Jim and Diane moved into Cambridge.
Jim was a member of the Fish Lake Lutheran Church and served on the Fish Lake Township Board. He enjoyed farming and driving tractor, fishing, camping with Laural and Paul throughout the states, and also made a trip to Hawaii to see his grandson serving in the military. He loved to take road trips to see the fall colors and travel around Mille Lacs Lake.
