Obituary of Douglas Kubat
Douglas James Kubat, 62, of Cambridge, formerly of Mora passed away on Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud.
He was born March 21, 1945 in Braham, Minnesota to Henry and Annabelle (Grahn) Kubat. He grew up in Mora, was active in high school sports and graduated from Mora High School in 1963. He went on to attend the University of Minnesota. In February of 1966 he entered the United States Army and served during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in February 1968. Doug will always be remembered as a loving father, papa, brother and uncle. Doug was a person that went out of his way for others in times of need and never expected the favor in return. The generosity and giving nature of Doug was something everyone knew him by. Although, Doug's life was cut short, he continued to live each day to its fullest and never found time to complain or dwell on the negative aspects of becoming ill, and up until his last moments of life he continued to share his humor and wit. Doug married Marsha Lilleboe in Mora and they had three daughters, Shannon, Brandi and Kimberly. Doug worked at Arcon Construction in Mora for several years and later for PCI, from which he retired in 2005 due to health problems.
Doug attended the First Baptist Church in Cambridge and was very involved in the men's bible study and other group's. Doug obtained several friendships through First Baptist, and through his journey with cancer Doug made the decision to except the Lord into his heart and life. Doug also enjoyed golfing, doing crossword puzzles, and woodworking; making many projects for his grandchildren. He loved his sweets, especially candy and cookies and had a great sense of humor. Doug made several trips to Alaska with his brother-in-law Robert Smith; there they would spend their winters selling Christmas Trees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, former wife Marsha Kubat, brother Walter A. Peterson Jr., and Brandi and Tim's unborn child.
Doug is survived by daughters Shannon and husband Ryan Wood of Cambridge, Brandi and husband Tim Sweeney of Brooklyn Park, Kimberly Kubat of Cambridge, three grandchildren who thought the world of their papa : Laynie, Austen and Regan Wood, his big "bro" Richard Kubat of Mora, sisters Janice and husband Richard Munter of Mora, Mary Jane and husband Kenneth Fore of Mora, Audrey and husband Robert Smith of Mora, guardian Agnes Andersen of Mora, as well as many nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
