I am so so sorry for your loss. Sharon was a friend of mine as well as Pete. It is never easy to lose your spouse. Nor is it easy to lose a Mother/Grandmother, or sister. My heart goes out to you all and I am sorry that I cannot come to the service today. I will keep you in my thoughts and my prayers. May God give you strentgth and comfort at this time. I will be thinking of you today. God Bless. Love Sue

I love this photo because to me it embodied how she loved her siblings and always tried to be there for them. I always kinda felt like a little sister myself!

I was out of work to raise my kids and then when I needed to get back to work Sharon was there with a job for me. She called me her "Girl Friday". She allowed me to work when I could and I could be available for my kids when they needed me. Allowing me to go to their "events" and be there for them when they were sick. Even allowing me to bring them with me in the summertime. She was a real life saver. She also taught me how to make really good soup! I'll miss her calling me "Robbie".

When Pete was in the service he and Sharon had just gotten married. he was going to be in Augusta, Georgia while he was training, Sharon wanted to be near him so she wanted to go and live on base for as long as she could. She didn't want to go alone so since I had just graduated from high school I decided to go with her. We took the greyhound bus down there and found a place to stay. It had a bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen. It also had the biggest roaches - 3 inches long - I swear! I got a job at a restaurant about 3 miles away, it was a bus stop from the base to town. I made 35 cents an hour plus tips. Sharon would walk to work with me (about 6 miles round trip and we lost alot of weight) and read or talk to the lady who was my boss and owner of the restaurant. Sometimes she would go out to the base and visit with Pete. We would walk home together. We were there for each other then, as always. We lived on Goulash, hot dogs and chips. We even had a little Christmas tree that we decorated with little candy canes. We were there about 6-8 weeks and then Pete got his assignment to go to Germany.
Sharon and I spent as much time together as we could. We used to play the game "password" and we got so good that soon no one wanted to play it with us!!!

Another escapade we had- we use to get up early (about 4a.m.)and Dad would take us into MPLS to see Grandma Pratt. Then Sharon and I would go downtown. We were supposed to be back at Grandma's by a certain time. We were having such a good time that we decided we could stay alittle longer if we took a cab instead of the bus.... so we decided to pool our money (AGAIN!). BIG mistake! On our way back to Grandma's our cab was in a fender bender and the cab company had to send out another cab for us to finish our ride. Then THAT cab was rear ended so the cab company sent out another cab. Grandma's was only a few miles from downtown but it was taking a very long time to get backthere! Needless to say when we got back Dad was waiting for us and he was mad. He had been very worried about where we were and what was happening. We told him what had happened and even to us our story sounded unbelievable! But it was the truth!!

Sharon was more than a cousin to me. She was a sister, best friend and confidant all rolled in to one.
We used to go for walks when she was living with our family and attending Anoka Senior High. We would walk over to Shoppers City about 1-1.5 miles away. On the way we would stop into model homes to get drinks in our little cups which we kept in our purses. One time when we went to Shoppers City there was a puppy for sale in a little cage outside on the sidewalk. We felt so sorry for it we decided to pool our money and buy him. Our mom and dad weren't home and my sister, Bonnie was in charge. She had a fit when she saw what we had done. We had bought him and couldn't return him. When our mom and dad got home they were upset with us and nothing we said made them change their minds. Dad ended up taking him to a family in the country and PAYING THEM to take him.

My sister lived with Sharon for many years at Lindwood and Manila House. I have so many memories of Sharon and the way she built families and welcomed us into hers but this one stands out for me and has become an inspiration.
One day, my mother and I were out shopping with Sharon and the ladies. We were at the WalMart snack area when my sister needed a napkin or something. Sharon asked Erik, who was then just a little guy, to get what was needed. As he was doing so, she said how lucky he was to have the opportunity to help someone else. Many people who do wonderful things for others think of those tasks as giving, as helping, as a duty, as a responsibility, as a lifeswork even..but how few of us think of helping others as an 'opportunity'.

I remember, many years ago, I had the chance to be riding up to Cambridge to spend some time at my cousins place, the Lindgren's. They had, at the time, a VW van and young Peter and I were riding in the very back because it was cool; cool as in the place to be, back there. I don't remember what we were talking about but I'm sure being young kids it was probably entertaining for Pete and Sharon to listen to us. At one point Sharon called us a couple of cuckoos. To which Pete chimed in quickly- as is his way- with: A couple of cuckoos in the cuckoo nest! We laughed and laughed.

We whose lives Sharon touched are better today for her having lived. The world today is a little less rich for her having passed. A brave kind giving soul is gone from this world.

I'm so sorry to hear of Sharon's passing. I am not sad that she is no longer suffering. She had a brave, hard battle. I'm sorry for the hole she leaves in her family but she also leaves a large legacy. My thoughts and prayers are with you all
