I played football in Australia with Josh in the summer of 1998, I remember Gary from that trip as well and was saddened to come across the news of his passing. Thoughts and prayers are with Josh and the rest of the family.

I was one of the many fortunate to be a player under Coach C. One summer tournament we went to play in Thief River Falls and Coach C knew how important it was for me to not only play against my old classmates, but how important it was to beat them. I will never forget the beaming, intense smile on his face as he coached me up while I walked off the mound. As he wrote to me in a note a few years later, "I will never forget the TRF legion tourney!" I was honored that a man who had such an impact on so many would make a point to mention that to me so much later down the road. And, yeah, he was still as happy as I that we shut them out.
I will never forget Coach C and the lessons I took from being one of his players. It was more than an honor to be coached and taught by him; it was a privilege.

There are going to be hundreds of former students wondering who lit this candle. I think at one time or another almost all of us thought we were Mr. C's favorite. One of Mr. C's many talents was making each student feel special and heard, like we were actual human beings, not just widgets shuffling through the system.
Several years after graduation I did get the opportunity to tell him how awesome he was and that he is still the best teacher I ever had and made a profound impact on my life. I pray that the Christofferson family finds some peace in their many memories. Mr. C's time on this earth was much too short, but his impact will be felt for generations. Love and Peace.

Gary was the type of person who lead by example. Gary was serving as one of the NEA Directors and was in the position for the better part of 2 years when he was hired as an Education Minnesota field staff employee. Gary quietly encouraged me to run for his open seat as an NEA Director; Gary could not serve in both governance and as a member of the staff of Education Minnesota. I assured him that I has far too busy and couldn't possibly do the job. He quietly and firmly assured me that if he could do it....I could do it. It was all up to me to either accept the challenge or not. But to say I was too busy when others continue to step up and go beyond what they have time for simply wasn't an acceptable excuse. Gary always went well beyond what was required, doing many of the extra things. He made an enormous difference in the lives of others....He will be missed.

Gary was a positive and collaborative colleague with whom I had the honor of serving at Cambridge Middle School. Although his support of everyone in the school was meaningful, what made Gary a unique person for our family was that he assisted each of them in important and life changing ways. Peter's reflection were about middle school years. Nels passionately recalls Gary's influence on his life in high school. Doug's special appreciation stems from Gary's support while he was teaching in a neighoring school district.
Pat was a guiding light within CIHS that I highly valued when working together. Emily made our international trip to Australia a joy. Josh was a steadfast friend of Peter thoughout their growing up years. What I a am seeking to share is that the Christofferson family members reflect the very best in life and beyond. Blessings!

I will always remember Gary's laugh and his big, generous heart. I can still hear him saying "Oh Pat" when he'd decide to do something she thought he shouldn't, then he'd let loose with that signature laugh.
I know his family was the most important thing to him and he was very proud of his kids and his grand kids. He will be missed.

At our 30th reunion last year I remember how several of us girls had crushes on him. I lost my father when he was 62 so I understand what you are going through. Gary and I talked many,many years ago about owning Harley's and riding. We agreed that one day we would do that and whoever bought one first the other HAD to. In 2,000 I bought one and immediately called Gary. He said he was just looking at one and went and bought it. Sister Pat called me and said "thanks a lot" she was just kidding of course, because we all 4 really enjoyed our bikes and took some trips together.

I am so sorry for your loss! Gary was a great guy. I was able to know Gary as both a leader and a staff member. He had the ability to make members stand up and listen, including me. I was about 9 or 10 when I first met Gary. I made him blush. I told my mom I thought he was "pretty." He was marrying my cousin Pat and it was the first wedding I was going to attend. I loved his pretty smile and his really wavy hair. They went on to live a lovely life with lovely children being a solid loving couple who supported education and their community. I send my love to Pat, Josh and Emily - Gary's life represented everything a role model of husband, father and teacher could be. I can only imagine that my Dad greeted him in the beyond with a handshake and a hug saying: hey buddy sorry you are here but glad to see you again.
