Obituary of Jean Ammon

Jean Eilene Ammon, 79, of Cambridge died from complications of cancer on Friday, February 21, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. She was born on the family farm southwest of Anamoose, North Dakota to Walter and Freda (Kaibel) Kapfer. Jean grew up near Anamoose, attending country school and later Anamoose High School. Following high school she worked as a waitress in Harvey, North Dakota. While in Harvey, she met Ernest Ammon and on January 30, 1955 Jean and Ernest were married at the First Congregational Church in Harvey. The couple moved to Minneapolis and Ernest began working at Land O' Lakes. In 1956 they purchased a farm in Cedar and raised their five children. Ernest worked several years for the Soo Line Railroad, while Jean stayed at home with the children. After the kids were grown, Jean worked for a time on a vegetable farm in Blaine. Ernest passed away in October 1991. Jean would sell the farm in April 1992 and bought a home in Cambridge. Jean was a member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church, she enjoyed quilting, gardening, and bowled on a women's league for several years. She was involved with a group that would go dancing at various local VFW halls. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernest, three infant sons Clyde Ray in October 1960, Daryl Dean in May 1963, Wayne James in March 1964, granddaughter Melanie Paterson in 1981, and brother Fred Kapfer.
