Obituary of Elisabeth Sahlmen

Elisabeth Sahlmen, 81, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West. She was born in Reinhausen, Germany to Heinrich and Elisabeth (Ahls) Verhulsdonk. Elisabeth married Leo Sahlmen on July 28, 1956 in Asberg, Germany and they had one son. She loved living! Elisabeth was always eager to go places and be with people. She was a great nanny to several children for many years. She enjoyed her cats and dogs and had a passion for knitting. She could make an afghan, sweater or baby outfit better than any machine. She was delighted by the looks on people's faces when she gave them one of her treasures. Music nights, bingo, and Farkel always brought her smiles. Her favorite times were spent with her family and she looked forward to any time they could be together. Elisabeth loved her family with all her heart and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leo, brothers Bernard, Heinz, and Paul, and sister Gertrude. Elisabeth is survived by her son Tom and wife Keri Sahlmen of Cambridge, granddaughters Alyssa Haugen (Scott) of Shoreview, Britne (Zach) Engelking of Cambridge, great grandsons Nathan and Quintin, sister Heni Pixa of Germany, and her extended family the Dunbar's of Cambridge.
