Dear Eerdmans All~ Hello from Ketchikan, Alaska. My mom told me about your husband, father, and grandfather....I am so sorry. (Sometimes I don't care for her phone calls and news.) Being in between grades of the Ned, Jill, and Neil, I didn't get to know him that well, but the few times that I was around him, to me, he was a "gentle giant" and I remember his smile and him always on a bike ride. I am grateful for technology and the ability to see you all again. You all are great people! Nancy, you have always been so kind to me. My Baptist Church connection with Pioneer Girls. Ned, I just remember you and Mike Porter and your big mouths, er, I mean voices......As a young person, you two made quite the impression on this under-classman. Jill, your great laugh and smile. You and Marty Porter in band, always cracking me up. (What's with the Porters?) And Neil, you introduced me to Bono and U2 (Sunday, Bloody Sunday on some New Year's Eve a bazillion years ago), of which I am so grateful for that insight. (Ah, let's just throw Ginny in for fun, ok?) So sorry I missed the "Bus driver, bus driver, open the door...." performance by you or my Dad, apparently it was unforgettable. So sorry to hear of your loss. Ted was such an important part of our bike rides to Scandanavia, Minneapple tour and the Colorado ride. Loved his dry sense of humor and his wonderful laugh. Ted, you will be missed by all of your biking friends. We got to know Ted on the Ocean to Ocean ride in 2000 where he became known as "Father Ted." You could always count on hearing Ted's laugh as we would sit around in the campground at the end of a long day recounting our adventures. Since then we have biked all over the world with Ted. He has made friends wherever he went. Ted loved to bike, but more importantly Ted loved people and we are all better off for having Ted as a friend.

Nancy & Family, I got to know Ted on on bike tours of the Rocky Mountains and Nova Scotia. He was a gracious, kind and witty companion on the road and over meals. Oh Neil, I’m so sorry to read from Jim Bassett that your dear father passed away. He will truly be missed……..MY biking life has always included Ted weather it be on the Klobuchar ride or Ragbrai or various other rides put on by ROTAS. To Ted's family: I well remember the day your Dad called the GAIA hot line to request a CANDISC registration brochure. I was filling in at the desk for my younger daughter who had a softball game. Ted called and asked questions about CANDISC and what type of tour it was. We had a lovely conversation (good thing it was toll free as it would have taken a while to pay the phone bill). When he showed up at registration, I knew him immediately and began the traditional teasing that would last as long as he rode CANDISC. I would go up to him and tell him how wonderful it was to see him and how were things in "Harvard" Minnesota (knowing full well Cambridge was the city). I shall always remember Jerry, Jim and Ted riding together; especially the year we went on the Enchanted Highway and we all stopped at the St. Mary's Church in Hague. Ted asked me what on earth I was doing in church....I told him I was praying for his, Jerry's and Jim's souls....He bent over laughing so hard. Those are the memories I will always cherish; I have missed him in the last tours but Jim Bassett, bless his heart has always kept us in the loop; Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as I well know your Dad has probably already convinced St. Peter to go on a bike tour!!!
