Obituary of Roger Larson
Roger W. Larson of Cambridge passed away on Monday December 15th, 2008 in his home at the age of 79.
He was born on May 16th, 1929 to Arthur and Edna Larson in Stanchfield, MN. He attended primary school at a little school house in Grandy and up to 8th grade in Cambridge.
Roger joined the US Marine Corps where he served on active duty from August 1948 to August 1952. He served in the Korean War. Just before his honorable discharge Roger met the love of his life, Norma in Quincy, MA while he was stationed at Hingham Marine base. They were then married on June 28th, 1952. After marriage Roger and Norma moved to Minneapolis, MN. Roger went back to school and attended Dunwoody and the U of M for drafting and carpenter apprenticeship.
In 1953, Roger and Norma moved to Circle Pines, MN where they started their family. Roger had a passion to fly and studied at night to earn his private pilots license. He then bought a Cessna 150 that he logged many hours flying around the tri-state area. Roger built a cabin in Glen, MN where he spent many weekends on Clear Lake fishing with his family and friends.
In 1971 Roger and Norma moved back to his hometown in Cambridge, MN where he continued his family construction company, farmed and performed in the Friday night horse shows along with his daughters and his horse Misty. Roger enjoyed spending time at his hunting shack in Canyon, MN, riding his 4-wheeler, hunting, fishing, playing cribbage with family, golfing and going out for breakfast with his friends, making jewelry, cutting gems. Roger also traveled to Meza, Arizona during the winter months with his wife Norma and cat Molly. Roger and Norma enjoyed their time in Arizona visiting friends, going to the flea markets, purchasing gems at court side and spending time together. He always looked forward to Norma's cooking and sugar cookies!
He was full of energy, a great provider, supportive and loving to his wife and ever growing family. He was the King of the Larson pride. A truly great man who will be missed by many. Roger was a member of the American Legion post 290 and VFW post 2392.
Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Norma of Cambridge, daughters Karen (Bob) Arneson of Cambridge; Linda (Richard) DeLage of Cambridge; Carole Dillard of California; Lisa (Scott) Rice of Cambridge; Gail (Larry) Loftus of Isanti; sons Eric (Annie) Larson of Braham; Martin Larson of Cambridge; brothers Jim (Jan) Larson of Austin, MN, Richard "Fizz" (Mary) Larson of Cambridge, MN. He has 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur Larson and Edna Schmidt, sisters Tanny Hyland and Deloris Potter.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Saturday December 20, 2008 at Christ The King Catholic Church with Father James Hahn officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Friday at the Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Travis Fuhol, Derek Nelson, Jon Larson, Brandon Arneson, Blake DeLage, Bret Anderson, Martin Loftus, Shane Loftus. Military Honors provided by the Cambridge American Legion Post #290.
