It was a beautidul fall day. The day Fran & Ron Spencer's son Michael and our daughter, Charlotte were going to be united in marriage at First Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Fran & Ron and other family members had come a few days earlier to do the finishing touches for the wedding We had met the Spencers several months before. The telephone lines had been quiet busy the months before with all the plans. So we got to know each other quite well. What I knew I liked and was happy to share my daughter with the Spencers and was happy to have another son-making him #4 son.( My family of 3 boys & 2 girls were growing. Michael has been a wonderful son and I would't trade him for anyone else.) Fran & I were the last to leave the house for the wedding. As we were in line to go into the church Fran said to me "Hey, you for got your hat" I said "Oh My Gosh!" Fran said "You want me to go back to the house and get it?" I said "Heck no, and you miss your son"s wedding. No one will notice that I don't have a hat on anyway?" (So I didn't have a hat-in those days it was a custom for ladies to wear hats for special occassion generally.) Wedding went on and while we were standing in the receiving line, the first person, my aunt said to me, "Lorraine, where is your HAT?" We all lived through the event. This was a joke
Fran & I had to laugh about almost each time we were together. She was a super great lady--full of fun, laughs,caring and just a super GREAt LADY. She is someone I considered as a cherished friend. I have a CD with her playing the piano. My how she could play almost anything any one would ask her to play and it was all by ear. Now she can play for all in Heaven and be with other members of her family and mine. May she rest in peace. Bless her memory.
