Obituary of Frances Spencer

Frances Margaret Spencer, 93, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East. She was born in Cambridge, Minnesota on October 11, 1917 to P.H. and Maggie (Hanson) Larson. Fran grew up in Cambridge and lived her entire life in Cambridge except for two years in Mora. Fran attended school and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1935. On March 27, 1937 she was united in marriage to Ronald "Barney" Spencer in Cambridge, MN and they were blessed with four children James, Don, Kay and Michael. Fran worked at Grandview Christian Home and was in the Recreational Department for over 22 years. She earned Lifetime Service Award at Grandview in 2000. Fran provided many years of friendship, compassion and music to Grandview residents, family and staff. She had the ability to reach people through her music and could spark a memory that had been long forgotten. She was a longtime member of Cambridge Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed making crafts and going to craft sales, she enjoyed traveling and especially her bus trips to Branson and Nashville. Fran was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was easy going and always eager to please. Fran was a special mom and grandma, and was known as Grandma Great by all her great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Fran was preceded in death by her parents, husband Barney in February 2001, sister Phyllis Bloomgren, brothers-in-law Bob Nelson, Russell Bloomgren, Bob Watson, grandson Darren, great grandson Jaden, sister-in-law Beth and her husband Earl Findell. She is survived by her children James and wife Darla of Cambridge, Don and wife Marilyn of Cambridge, Kay and husband Jary Heinemann of Elk River, Michael and wife Charlotte of Bella Vista, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, sisters Jeanne Watson of Cambridge, Bev and husband Max Herrnberger of Cambridge, as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
