The time has come to say farewell, To a man we all know so well, When i was four, They moved in next door, Which started our friendship forever, He was the dad i never had,and i am so glad he took all of us under his wing. He would lend you his ears, to wipe away your fears, and his laugh could dry up your tears. With a 6"4 frame everyone knew he was much more Than just a name With his long steady stride and no fear inside you could count on him night or day This poem to you is long over due, it is time thatcan not wait. My grandpa was a wonderful man. Especially a fantastic grandfather to me. I may live in Alaska, but I knew he treated me like one of his own grand children all the same. I loved it when Grandpa Clarence and Grandma Jane came to visit. I remember going to Beluga Point with them, which is where that picture of him was taken. The other stories of them in Anchorage were all great, but I must tell the most memorable to me. I remember he was driving, Jaime and I were giving him instructions on where to go in Anchorage. We were just driving out of Fred Meyers, and we accidentally instructed him to turn into the one way. It was pretty busy, but other drivers were okay with it. I love my grandfather and my grandmother very much and am very sorry for putting them in that situation.

My grandpa has always been that tall friendly guy I remember him as. Although I live miles away in Alaska, I always loved him. I remember we all drove to Fairbanks in that motor home, it was one of the best times of my life and I'm happy he was there share it with me. I haven't seen him as much as I'd like in my life, but I sure did like talking to him on the phone. I'll miss him more than I did before. I love you Grandpa, one day you and I will be fishing from heaven like we did at that lake in Minnesota. From another one of your grand daughters, Jaime.

It's amazing to have been able to share 39 years with my Grandpa. People always said how lucky I am for that. My bond with Grandpa was special as he always seemed to know how I felt and what I needed. I'm the oldest grandchild and lived the closest the majority of my life, within a half mile away. One thing Grandpa and I had in common was that we're both "only" children. Living so close to my Grandparents I didn't care that I was an only child because I had them. I will never forget the things Grandpa did and enjoyed and the memories at the cabin on Knife Lake. He wouldn't let me forget the time I begged Grandma to make hamburgers and he was alone down at the dock on the pontoon, with a few "extra" lines and the DNR floated up to him. WHOOPS!! I know he understood, because neither of us could resist Grandma's cooking! I love this picture as it is just a typical day in life sitting around together. All my love Grandpa. You'll be in my heart forever and I will see you again! Tracy

Years ago when the old farm house was still upright I remember listening through the heat opening in the second floor from the kitchen my parents, aunt and uncles singing while Chap played the accordion. Generally a roar of laughter at some of their own musical blunders but always fun.

Clarence was a tall man ~~ Janie was short ~~ as a kid you wondered how do these two people go together? Well like peas & carrots. Growing up with this family, seeing the cousins at least once or twice a month ~~ I saw a hardworking man, loving husband, kind and gentle family man. He seemed so smart.
We shared so much as kids with each other and one of our favorite sayings were ~~
"We knew you were coming so we baked a cake." It didn't matter who's house it was at ~~ the True's or the Chapman's.
Well Clarence ~~ I'll bet Viv made you a cake. You were one of the good guys.
