Obituary of Dennis Valentyn
Dennis Michael "Denny" Valentyn Sr, 67, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born November 13, 1943 in Faribault, Minnesota to Harry and Joanna (Langeslag) Valentyn. Dennis grew up in Faribault, attending grade school at St. Lawrence Catholic School and graduating from Faribault High School in 1962. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged after serving two years. After the service, he attended Faribault Vocational School. He later joined the Army Reserves and served for 27 years.
On June 4, 1966 he was united in marriage to Margaret Naughton at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. They made their home in Faribault and raised their son Dennis Jr. In 1979 the family moved to Cambridge. In March 1979 Dennis became the Unit Administrator for the Army Reserves in Cambridge and retired on November 13, 2003. After retiring, Dennis worked part time for Merwin Pharmacy delivering medication and continued working there until September 2010.
Dennis was a member of the Isanti County Safety and Rescue, the Cambridge American Legion, and Christ The King Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching his two grandchildren's sporting events, and spending time at his place on Mille Lacs Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lambert "Fat", Clarence "Val" and sister TheoDora "Toots". Dennis is survived by his wife Margaret "Marge", son Dennis Jr. and wife Brenda Valentyn, two grandchildren Michael and Jessica Valentyn all of Cambridge, brother Francis "Bubs"Valentyn of Faribault, sister MaryJo Miller of Faribault, as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
