Gerry passed away in October of 2006 so everyone of his housemates went to the funeral to pay their last respects. During the funeral services we were asked to follow along and recite the Lord's Prayer. To our amazement Richard followed along word for word. A few days after the funeral several staff were sitting with Richard at the dining room table and we started to talk about the funeral and how Richard had said the Lord's Prayer. We asked Richard if he remembered it and he said "Our FATHER who art in Heaven, and the man who shot Jessie James." We laughed until we cried. That's what we will miss...Richard's quick wit and sense of humor!!!

From the day Richard moved into Linnea he seemed to share a special bond with Tim. They always sat by each other in the dining for all snacks, meals or just when visiting! Whenever Richard asked for coffee, or his usual glass of COLD water, he always made sure Tim got one as well. He also answered for Tim and would be quick to remind staff that he wasn't deaf if Tim didn't answer us right away and we kept "nagging." (Richard was also quick to remind us that he wasn't deaf! There were many times we asked him a question two or more times and he would respond back with "You don't have to yell, I'm not deaf!") This special bond was still evident up until the day Richard passed away. Two day before Richard died he was sitting at his usual spot in the dining room with Tim by his side. Staff had given Richard his cup of coffee and asked Tim if he wanted on. Tim did not answer so staff asked him several more times. Each time they were met with silence. Richard finally leaned over to Tim and gently said "They wanna know if you want coffee." Tim quickly responded with a "Yes." Tim will miss Richard!

I remember not long after Richard moved into Linnea a few of us ladies were talking about weight and being fat. I turned to Richard and asked him if he thought I was fat. Being politely correct he simply stated "I wouldn't say that!" I loved being able to get to know Richard. He always made my day when I came into work. He had a smile that could light up a room and you always knew if he was getting ready to tease you by the grin on his face. We will miss Richard! I am thankful for the time I had with him and I am forever grateful that his loving sister trusted us enough to care for him.

Richard was always happy when his brothers and sisters came to visit. He always greeted us with a big smile and wanted to hear about anything new in the family. Richard's birthday was July 11th. and mine was July 10th, so we always celebrated our Birthdays together.He would ask me what I wanted for my Birthday and I would tell him. It didn't matter what I told him, he would give me the same thing every year anyways,MONEY!!! HA,and who doesn't like money. Richard loved Western movies,so off to Best Buy in St. Cloud we would go. We would sit and read about movies for a couple hours,then he would pick out between 10-15 movies for his gift.Then we would go to lunch and then head for home.Richard would go to his room and we wouldn't see him the rest of the evening. He was enjoying his movies because they only got 3 channels on their TV. We always had fun together! AUDREY (SISTER)

Richard always had a secret stash of candy. When we would visit at Verndale, he would tap me on the shoulder and ask if I was going to town. Richard would go with and buy more candy or cookies to add to his stash. Once when Ryan was about 2 years old he was suppose to be taking a nap, Richard came and got me to show me this lump under his bedspread and there was Ryan covered in chocolate eating Richard's candy bars. You could tell Richard was upset, but he couldn't help but laugh.
Richard and I played a lot of cards. He always won at War. We peeled a lot of potatoes and washed a lot of dishes together. He was a perfectionist. Whatever Richard did he gave his all.
